Why Submarines Adopt Old Mechanical Valves Instead of Electric Ones

With the development of science and technology, life becomes more and more convenient, and intelligence and mechanization have become people's new pursuit. Under such a background, electric valves have been widely used in modern industry since their first appearance. However, unexpectedly, old-fashioned mechanical valves are used for almost all submarines in various countries instead of advanced electric valves. What are major contributors to that?

Some believe that there are numerous mechanical valves on submarines, but those valves can be replaced with electric valves. Only one computer is needed to operate the electric valve, saving time and enhancing combat capacity. You are a layman if you think so. As everyone knows, submarines work underwater and it is mainly operated by electricity, so it is extremely important to save electricity of submarines.

If all of the mechanical valve is replaced by the electric valve, the power consumption in one day is fast and huge, meaning the time of the submarine staying underwater will be shortened and the risk of exposure, so it will not increase the combat power but decrease it. And the old mechanical valve is relatively much more power saving.

Besides, the old mechanical valve is much safer than the electric one. Because the submarine stays in the deep sea, it may cause the sacrifice of all officers and men once a fault occurs to it. If electric valves run out of power during the war, various problems will inevitably arise. But mechanical valves will hardly have any problems as long as they are properly maintained and operated. Therefore, based on these two aspects, most submarines do not adopt electric valves.
