Difference between Trunnion Ball Valves and Floating Ball Valves

The ball valve is not bothered by frequent operation. It is with quick opening and closing, small fluid resistance, simple structure, small volume, light weight, and convenient maintenance. Besides, this valve boasts good sealing performance, no restriction of installation direction, arbitrary flow direction of medium, no vibration and low noise.

Ball valves can be divided into floating ball valves, trunnion ball valves, flexible ball valves and oil seal ball valves according to their structural forms. In accordance with the passage, they can be classified into straight through ball valves, right angle ball valves and three-way ball valves which is mainly divided into T-port ones and L-port ones. As per their connection forms, these valves can fall into three types—threaded ball valves, flanged ball valves and welded ball valves.

The floating ball valve has a ball floating inside the valve body, while the ball of the trunnion ball valve is fixed. The trunnion ball valve is a new generation of high-performance ball valve, suitable for long-distance pipelines and general industrial pipelines. It is safe, resistant to harsh environment, and suited to all kinds of corrosive and non-corrosive media.

Compared with the floating ball valve, when the trunnion ball valve works, the acting force generated by the inlet fluid pressure on the ball is transmitted to the upper and lower bearings. The ball will not move, and the sealing of the ball valve is realized by pushing the valve seat towards the ball under the spring action and medium pressure, so the valve seat will not bear excessive pressure. Therefore, the trunnion ball valve has a seat of slight deformation, low operating torque, reliable sealing performance and long service life. This valve is especially suitable for occasions with high pressure and large caliber.
